Guess there wasn’t much shopping going on this weekend because people were buzzing away on our story chats and forums. The big talker was the story about a police officer from Scarsdale who is being charged for the full cost of his health insurance after going out on disability for an injury sustained in the line of duty. Most people who responded, many of whom had some variation of ‘Scarsdale’ in their username, were outraged. A few were saying that the officer should have done his research before making any decision about whether to go out on worker’s comp or disability. Here’s a sampling of the more than 100 comments posted on our Web site so far:
I’ve never had anything but the utmost respect for Scarsdale, but this is absolutely disgusting. When a man places his life on the line for the good citizens of the jurisdiction that employs him, he should know that they’ll be for him if he gets hurt in the performance of his duties. Scarsdale is better than this. I know it in my heart. I pray that the powers that be will take a moment to reflect on this decision and do what is right.
Seems like the cop voluntarily put himself in this situation with the choice he made.
Scarsdale is putting our citizens at risk, by unlawfully punishing the brave men and women who put their life at risk everyday. Scarsdale stop the nonsense. This is humiliating.
