Good morning. Here’s a glance at today’s opinion content:
• We welcome news that former New York City Mayor Ed Koch and a coalition of good-government advocates have set out to end gerrymandering of state Assembly and Senate districts in today’s editorial. Koch’s group has called for an independent commission to oversee redistricting in 2012. Candidates for governor — Republicans Rick Lazio, Steve Levy and Carl Paladino — and a presumed candidate, state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo have signed a pledge to support the plan.
• In a Community View, John Calvelli, who lives in Pelham Manor and is executive vice president of public affairs for the Wildlife Conservation Society, cheers the revival of the Bronx and Hudson rivers, but argues that more must be done to preserve the wild.
