Good morning. Here’s a digest of opinion content published in The Journal News today, Wednesday, Jan. 26:
Food labels: Editorial
We comment on news that the food industry this week unveiled new front-of-package labels that inform consumers of calories, saturated fat, total sugars and sodium. The new nutrition keys, we conclude, “have the potential to confuse consumers because they can make even decidedly unhealthy foods look healthy.” We write:
… New Yorkers should care about what information goes on the labels — precisely because too few watch what goes into their stomachs. Sixty percent of New Yorkers are either overweight or obese; the rate is 66 percent for blacks and 61 percent for whites, according to state Health Department statistics. New York ranks second among the states in adult obesity-related medical expenditures, the annual tab for which is some $7.6 billion, according to state Comptroller’s Office figures. The thinking among food-label proponents is, consumers will make better eating decisions when they get the right information in a manner they can understand. …

What a biased poll Ed. You leave no room for those who believe the president is a extreme leftist with a radical socialist agenda. Did you leave the planet during the the mid
term elections? You force the poll/survey participants into a very narrow opinion window. “Not sure his bipartisan tone can be sustained?” Really?
Well gosh gee williker! How about another choice like: “No, His words are meaningless. Can’t wait to throw him out of office in 2012.” Oh and BTW if someone is indifferent to the questions, why would they be taking the poll in the first place? You folks at the Journal News are pathetic and corrupt. No wonder I canceled my subscription long ago.
