Two experts on hydraulic fracturing, or hydrofracking, or fracking, are meeting with the Editorial Board at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
They are Kate Sinding and Eric Goldstein of the Natural Resources Defense Council.
We’ll be including many of your questions in our interview. Submit them by email to me, Anjanette Delgado, at adelgado@lohud.com, via Twitter at @LoHudOpinion or in the comments below.
On Wednesday, we’ll be broadcasting the interview live at LoHud.com/EditorialSpotlight. We’ll also take your questions then during a simultaneous live chat.

How would you address the fact that the people in Dimock PA had Methane in their water wells long before fracking came on scene? This is a well known fact in this area of North East PA. I know because I have land there and needed to drill my water well at least 350 ft so I wouldn’t hit the veins of sulfur/methane gas.
Do you have anyone from the Natural Gas side such as the NYS IOGA or someone independent such as the NYS DEC to interview? It is starting to look one sided to me.
They are lighting their taps on fire near Afton N.Y. and no drilling is going on within 50 miles.
Do you believe that the NYS DEC has done it’s due diligence in studying this issue?
How many years has hydrofracking been going on in NYS?
My concern with drilling is what to do with the waste after fracturing.
The industry is starting to figure out what to do with it using the latest technology such as recycling or using LPG to Frack. I am a leased landowner in favor of safe, responsible drilling.
Facts only please not fear! Let the DEC do their job, that is what they were hired to for and they are the experts in their field!
I applaud you Kate and Eric for helping to keep us safe!
I have read your profiles and can see that you are Attorney’s.
How many years experience do you have in the field of hydrofracking?
Are you scientists or geologists?
Thank you
To the Editorial Board,
Could you also place a picture on your website of landowners in favor of hydrofracking?
Their are plenty of pro-gas rally’s around as well as people in support of this.
Even our President Barack Obama.
NYS is the only state out of 39 right now who doesn’t allow this practice.
How are they planning on disposing of the hydrofracking waste fluids since earthquake activity was caused by the disposal well activities in both Ohio and Oklahoma?
Jimmy, NYS is not the only state that has moratoriums or bans on fracking and we have 50 states, not 39.
The prospectus for a hydrofracking investment fund was read at the DEC hearings, acknowledging risk of accidents, negligence, earthquakes, floods, explosions or natural disasters could be catastrophic. We heard of 29 mile death-plumes shooting into the sky.
In the planning are up to 18,000 wells, so prevalent that pristine Finger Lakes areas could a see a well site every quarter mile.
Conservationists described simple alternatives to supplant energy demand, for example replacing an average of 2-inch of insulation with 16 inches in half of NY homes to reduce fuel costs dramatically. The Solar Jobs Act projects creation of 40% more jobs in producing clean, renewable pollution-reducing energy. Personally, I am “going solar”, with a contractual guarantee I will produce about 95% of my home’s electricity for decades with a 4-5 year pay down of my investment.
I know the leaseholders are for fracking because you want to make more money, but how do you defend the companies who won’t divulge the chemicals so scientists can determine their safety? What about the hundreds of landowners who took settlements to seal the details of property damage? Should these non-disclosure settlements be unsealed so NY can determine what fracking really has meant?
Gus,
Thanks you changed my mind. Ha ha!
I knew you new very little about the process!
Name one other state that has a ban?
It’s more about you not wanting to see any change to your PRISTINE area. It’s not about the risks posed by this activity. You just don’t want any activity. That’s what you call a NIMBY. Well you better get ready because it’s coming and NYS has done it’s due diligence, rightfully so!
Why was Josh Fox arrested when he attempted to keep the public informed of Congressional proceedings in DC ?
Has the Republican party engineered this MEDIA BLACKOUT?, and if so ? Is it to further line their pockets at the expense of citizens and the environment?
Please spread the word of the Media BlackOut of “FACTS” re: fracking.
Google “GASLAND” the Movie..The creator of which was arrested yesterday, defending YOUR RIGHTS to transparency in Govt….This message is a result of….The Corporate/Military/Industrial Complex…Coming to your “back-yard” soon.

“Jimmy” says:
“NYS is the only state out of 39 right now who doesn’t allow this practice.”...and
“Facts only please not fear! Let the DEC do their job, that is what they were hired to for and they are the experts in their field!”
Let me digest that; .....the “experts”?
The “experts, Jimmy, created, aided and abetted the financial mess this country is in!
Also: These same “Experts” don’t have “skin” in the game…it’s NOT THEIR WATER being AFFECTED..nor their property values being shredded due to POLLUTION.
You sound like a “shill” for the Gas Co.
