Commentary on today’s news and opinion, from readers and newsmakers.
In breaking news this morning: “New York’s child protection agency has found no evidence that Douglas Kennedy, son of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, ever abused or mistreated his newborn son, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press.”
Stories on the Kennedy case when it originally came to light in February became some of the most commented of the year so far, and reaction to this one is beginning as well:
The nurses were following hospital protocol that says you can’t remove a child without written permission. They were doing their job. How could they know his intent? If he weren’t a Kennedy more charges would have been filed at this point.”

Readers obviously impacted by the program responded to a story on Heeling Autism, which pairs service dogs with families:
One of the featured dogs (“Wheat”) will be coming home to live with us to assist my little boy. I thank God for this program and each and every individual and animal involved.”

Our beautiful 5-year-old grandson David had Autism. Autism claimed his life in a drowning accident 9 years ago, well before Guiding Eyes for the Blind initiated this program. We will ever and always support this remarkable organization in any way we can so that they can continue to provide such a profound life saving assistance to these families. We are GEB puppy raisers of Fuji who is now in her fourth month of training at Yorktown Heights. Our service to Guiding Eyes for the Blind is truly an ongoing privilege with rewards that are unmatched. God bless the GEB staff and all they serve.”
