Teenager Corey Foster’s death at Leake & Watts residential treatment center in Yonkers has outraged many and inspired quick calls for punishment, followed by others urging readers to wait for the results of an investigation. The LoHud.com story also raised questions about when restraint can be used on children.
After reading the posts below, I have to say this: Hopefully more will be known once the investigation is completed. But for now, I find it hard to believe that it took eight people to restrain one person. — Larry Floss“The use of the word, ‘restrain’ is misleading. When these institutions ‘restrain’ a young person, it is often done with excessive force and violence by staffers who are not trained to do this. … Was the staff at Leake & Watts properly trained for ‘restraints?’ Did that staff know to do or say what could diffuse the situation?”
