Commentary on today’s news and opinion, from readers and newsmakers.
New York’s request for a $2 billion federal loan to help fund a replacement for the Tappan Zee Bridge has stalled, prompting LoHud.com readers to question tolls and mass transportation options again.
“Oh, we have an issue with money? Let’s raise the tolls more to make up for it! Apparently a $5 toll isn’t high enough? The more you raise the toll, the more people will seek alternative methods/bridges to cross the river. I know I avoid the TZB like the plague. I refuse to pay $5 to go over a bridge.”
— Jimmy Nevins“Goodbye $5 toll; hello $20 toll!”
— Bishop Dubois High School“While replacement of the Tappan Zee Bridge has to have the highest priority among local and state officials, I applaud the position of the three county executives that the state can’t move this project without much more information being made available, the environmental impact analysis completed, and a mass transportation component included.”
