A Rockland County Girl Scout is in Albany today to urge lawmakers to raise the state’s minimum wage. Hannah Buckler, 12, of New City, decided while volunteering at a local soup kitchen that raising the wage would help the poor. What LoHud.com readers said:
Raising the minimum wage? Good opportunity to teach the child that minimum wage is not something to strive for. Increasing minimum wage will make New York state that much more unattractive to future potential employers, making it less likely her father will get another job. Or, use this as an opportunity to teach her EDUCATION is the great equalizer. The better educated are less likely to be concerned with minimum-wage positions.”

Get an education. If not, acquire a trade or skill that the hiring demands outweigh supply of said ability and prosper on your own right.”
— Stuart Chaney
Too bad people with great educations can’t always find good-paying jobs and are working jobs that pay the pittance New York City calls minimum wage. … Let’s not even discuss the ton of debt that great education will get you.”
