New York City’s Board of Education released its first set of social media guidelines for teachers this spring. Among them is the instruction that teachers and students shouldn’t be “friends” on Facebook or other sites.

My teachers were there for me when my parents weren’t. They supported me and mentored me. I had my first driving lesson from one of my teachers, another teacher found out I was a little below my grade in French and she made sure that I caught up. I had a second set of parents that cared and did not have the stresses of being the parent. My teachers were awesome and I thank God everyday for every teacher in Mahopac High School and all the administrators too, who supported me through a rough childhood and raised me up everyday to help make me a better person.
