The liberal elite continue to live in fantasyland. You can fill the stores with peas and oatmeal but the stores will still carry baked goods, hot dogs and soda, which the people will continue to gravitate to. The best way to combat obesity in the poor segment is to allow them to develop self-esteem in the same way that the rest of us do. Only a small fraction of people on assistance could not survive without it. Those are the only ones who should get it.”

It should be pretty straightforward to fix. Make food stamps legally redeemable only for staples. Rice, beans, fresh or canned vegetables, flour, sugar, fresh or preserved meat, cooking oil, eggs, whole or powdered milk, etc. You want potato chips, soda, cookies, candy, frozen dinners, ice cream, cigarettes? Spend your own money.”
