A Dobbs Ferry woman writes that funding is needed to create programs in schools for children struggling with academic or behavioral deficiencies and that teachers should not held solely at fault for students’ issues. The conversation on LoHud.com quickly turned to whether teachers are overpaid or underpaid:
“Let the money come from the overpaid professions. For example …CPA’s get $350 an hour, my plumber makes $100 an hour, all the male professions are overpaid relative to women’s fields. Teachers are vastly underpaid relative to their training and education.”
—James Foley
“Pensions were added to attract good people to poorly paid, public employment. With 6 figure salaries (with some seniority) standard, locally, 401ks should be adopted or pay should be reduced. Teachers are being paid about the same as their private sectors peers but for far fewer annual hours and with a pension and healthcare after retirement.”
—Tony Francis
Many within Rockland’s GOP party have become disgruntled with incumbents for cross-endorsing non-Republican candidates and have thus formed a group called the Rockland Republican Academy to garner support for a change of party leadership. LoHud.com readers as well as the spokesman for the opposition group weigh in on this internal squabble:
“I’m sorry, but old-line Republicans are not representing me and what I want. They seem to be in a bubble regarding issues of the day and just like someone because they are “Republican”. We need a new wave of independent thinkers and that means fresh blood because it’s not business as usual in politics anymore.”
—Helene Solinga
“Putting Democrats on the ballot as though they were Republicans is just another form of voter fraud and denies us representation. Especially when ready, willing and sometimes nominated Republicans want to run. This practice must be abolished. It confuses party line voters and proves to them that their vote does not count”
-Lawrence Stone, Spokesman for Rockland Republican Academy

Some characterize this movement as a rebellion. Perhaps it is, but only against those who are clinging to the status quo. Instead, let’s discuss this as if it were a rescue mission. The Republican Party is held hostage and we are intent on liberating them.
