Building a new Tappan Zee Bridge spanning the Hudson River and connecting Rockland and Westchester counties is projected to cost upwards of $5 billion. The final environmental reports are in, and so are bids from three consortiums competing to design and build one of the largest infrastructure projects in the nation. Construction could begin by year’s end. Meanwhile, the funding puzzle remains.

So they are going to add more lanes to the TZ bridge yet keep the same number of lanes on each side. The bottle neck is not only the bridge. 4 lanes going down to 3, a steep hill up in Rockland. No high speed tolls for traffic flow.
Why not cover the end of the bridge in south Nyack with a park to cut down on noise and give us our park, since they are tearing down the old bridge.
Oh yeah, they can tunnel from England to France, but not from west Nyack to Tarrytown. What a joke.
What is the expected lifespan of the new bridge. How often will the deck have to be replaced? Can’t they put a net under it for jumpers?
Hello People
, Im New TO This Forum. How are you guys doing?
Hi BurtCcCjv,
Welcome! Feel free to click on the play button in the blue box at the top to talk to LoHud reporters and editors about the bridge.
Why is PUtnam County and the executive involved with this at all?
Would it be possible to use the old TZ bridge alongside the new one for at least another 10 or 15 years or so. This may allow tolls to be mitigated, traffic eased and for train line on new bridge as trafic flows adjusted to revenues on the train line aspect. Has this been financially analyzed?
THE COUNTY EXECUTIVES ARE EASILY CONNED. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF PROBLEMS WITH TRANSIT ON THE 10TH OF NEVER: 1. TRANSIT REQUIRES PARKING. 2. LARRY HAS CONSTANTLY SAID THAT ADDING TRANSIT WOULD ADD SOMETHING IN THE ORDER OF ANOTHER $5 BILLION. WAS THIS EVER TRUE? 3. WE DON’T NEED TRANSIT SO MUCH AS WE NEED HEAVY RAIL. HEAVY FREIGHT DETOURS 250 MILES TO CROSS THE RIVER. THE FUEL SAVINGS HERE ALONE WOULD PAY FOR THE CORRECT OPTION WHICH IS THE TUNNEL. 4. THE BRIDGES AS DESIGNED ARE BASICALLY UNBUILDABLE, WITH NO FOOTINGS, AND THEY CERTAINLY WILL NOT SUPPORT RAIL AND ITS INHERENT VIBRATION. 5. LARRY HAS CONSTANTLY SAID THAT THE TUNNEL WOULD COST MUCH MORE. HOW DO TUNNELS ALL OVER THE WORLD COST FROM 1/10TH TO 1/4 AS MUCH AS THE EQUIVALENT BRIDGE AS MEASURED IN COST PER LANE MILE? TZB AS BUILT COST $20 MILLION PER LANE MILE; NEW NY BRIDGE WILL COST FROM $200 – $300 MILLION PER LANE MILE; SAN FRANCISCO $300 – $350 MILLION PER LANE MILE. ALMOST ALL MAJOR TUNNELS $20-$30 MILLION PER LANE MILE. 6. WE HAVE THE MTA TAX – I AM SURE WE WILL SOON HAVE THE NEW NY BRIDGE TAX LAID ON EVERY PAYROLL IN THE STATE AND EXTENDING TO NJ AND CONN. IF THE BRIDGE PROJECT GOES THROUGH AT $5-$8 BILLION AND THE TUNNEL IS NOT BUILT AT $1-$2 BILLION. HOW ABOUT IT? LET’S GET ON THE RIGHT TRACK. AND HOW ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS OF A BRIDGE DESTROYING 3 TOWNS AND THE RIVER?
