What people are talking about in 24 hours of LoHud.com:
Chestnut Ridge residents are angry after the town of Clarkstown put a blockade on Samuel Road in an attempt to thwart speeders. Detours are now required to reach major thoroughfares from this community, and many are suggesting this will make it inconvenient not only for residents but also for EMTs and firefighters responding to an emergency:
“What a sense of entitlement exists. For the good of a few. Put several speed bumps on the road instead of blocking the whole thing. First responders will have to stop to unlock a gate. Could mean the difference between life and death. This is ridiculous.”
— Mary Behrens Koshak
“Look at a map and educate yourself, people, before commenting. Other options were looked at. The article doesn’t mention that the speed limit for Newport is 30 mph, yet the average car was exceeding 45 mph, some were clocked at 70 mph. Nor does it mention that one resident has had about five cars on her lawn over the years, none of them being Nanuet addresses. Sense of entitlement? Yes, we are entitled to protecting our families and neighbors.”
— Don Habas
“We can all agree that Newport Drive has a speeding problem, but should the solution come at the expense of other streets? The barrier has not made the speeders disappear, it has just pushed them onto adjacent streets. The main concern is that this has been done without any consideration for other streets in the neighborhood.”
— Nicholas Miller
“I lived on Samuel Road for around 25 years. This is a tough call. It is less convenient but more quiet. I am just happy to see Pascack Homes in the news. Very cool.”
— Bill Riendeau
